Gold Processing in Hong Kong: Jewellery Casting, Gold Powder, Wire Drawing and Ingots

Kam Yuen Gold is a precious metals workshop in Hung Hom, Hong Kong. With dedicated processing facilities, production and testing equipment, and an experienced team of craftsmen, we process customer-supplied gold for individuals, jewellery brands and industrial clients. Our four core services are jewellery casting, gold powder and grain production, wire drawing and ingot casting. Ownership of your gold stays clear, our methods and charges are transparent, and quality is checked at every stage, so you always know where every gram of your gold has gone.

What is customer-supplied gold processing?

You bring the gold, and we turn it into what you need to an agreed process, specification and quality standard. You pay only a processing fee plus an agreed process loss. Because the gold remains yours throughout, you don't pay the premium built into finished products, just the cost of the work. That keeps costs under control, gives you freedom over the design, and makes it a practical way to put old gold to use or to produce pieces to order.

We accept, among other things:

  • Jewellery: old pure gold or karat gold jewellery, broken pieces, scrap gold and jewellery offcuts
  • Industrial material: production leftovers, gold grain, gold powder and casting sprues
  • Investment gold: standard gold bars, ingots and bullion coins

Our processing services

Jewellery casting

We use lost-wax casting, the industry standard, for one-off custom pieces and small to medium production runs. It suits jewellery brands, independent designers and private clients alike. For the full process, see Jewellery Casting in Hong Kong: Lost-Wax Casting from Your Sample or Drawing.

Gold powder and grain

Using vacuum melting and atomisation, we turn loose scrap into gold powder or grain of consistent particle size, which makes later alloying and weighing straightforward. Particle size can be set to your requirements, the purity matches your original material, and no impurities are introduced.

Wire drawing

Gold is pulled through a series of dies, pass by pass, down to the diameter you specify. Gold wire is a basic material for jewellery making and industrial use. See Gold Wire Drawing: Material Testing and Specifications.

Ingot casting

Loose, irregular pieces of gold are melted and cast into ingots of regular shape and consistent weight, which are easier to store and keep track of. See Gold Powder and Ingot Casting: Can Old Gold Be Melted into Bars?

If what you need isn't listed here, get in touch anyway. We'll propose a plan based on your design, process and specifications.

How the process works

Every order follows the same documented steps, so your gold is accounted for from start to finish.

  1. Testing and registration: When you arrive, we test the purity of your gold on the spot with an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyser and record its weight, purity and form. You confirm the figures in person before they are registered.
  2. Plan and quote: We draw up a plan setting out the specification, quality standard and lead time, together with the processing fee and the agreed loss rate.
  3. Production: Our craftsmen work to the agreed parameters, with quality checks at key stages to control purity, dimensions and finish.
  4. Final check and handover: The finished pieces are re-tested and weighed in front of you. We go through the receipt line by line (incoming weight, finished weight, leftover weight and agreed loss), and once everything tallies, we hand over the finished pieces, any leftover gold and a formal receipt.

FAQ

Is there a minimum amount of gold?

There's no fixed minimum; the economical quantity depends on the process. For small amounts, we'll work out what share of the value the processing fee represents, so you can decide whether it's worthwhile.

Will processing increase the purity of my gold?

No. Casting, wire drawing, powder making and ingot casting change only the form of the gold, not its purity. If you want to refine lower-purity gold to 999 or 9999, ask us about our refining service.

What ID do I need to bring?

Depending on the value and weight of the order, we verify identity in line with Hong Kong compliance requirements. For larger orders, please bring your Hong Kong Identity Card or a valid passport. It's best to check with us before you visit.

How long does processing take?

It depends on the process, quantity and complexity. Simple ingot and wire orders are quicker; custom casting and larger orders take longer. We'll confirm the lead time when you approve the plan.
